On-Site Massage Chairs
The service performed in the portable massage chairs is commonly referred to as chair massage and less frequently as
seated massage. However, it wasn't always this way.
Originally the term, on-site massage was used in reference to the service. The inventor of the massage chair, David
Palmer, conceived of this primarily as a massage service that went on-site at workplaces or offices. And as a result the massage chairs
are often referred to as on site massage chairs to differentiate them from the electric massage recliners.
With the advent of fixed locations or retail chair massage stores like the Great American Backrub Company, the term on-site massage was used
less and the term chair massage became more popular. However, massage therapists still occasionally refer to the chairs as on-site massage chairs
and sometimes as office massage chairs or workplace massage chairs.
